FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does the filing cost calculator include?

It estimates the official government filing fees charged by each trademark office for the countries and number of Nice classes you select. It does not include attorney, agent, translation or renewal fees, which vary by provider.

What is the Madrid Protocol and when is it cheaper?

The Madrid Protocol lets you file one international application through WIPO and designate multiple member countries, instead of filing separately in each. It is usually cheaper and simpler once you are protecting in roughly three or more countries; for one or two countries, direct national filing is often cheaper.

Why does the number of classes change the cost so much?

Most trademark offices charge a separate official fee for each Nice class you include in an application. Adding classes multiplies the per-class fee across every country you file in, so covering more classes raises the total quickly.

Are these the exact fees I will pay?

No. The figures are estimates of official fees to help you plan a budget. Actual fees change over time, depend on exchange rates and filing options, and exclude professional fees. Confirm final costs with each office or a qualified trademark attorney.
