On July 10, 2026, Safe Superintelligence Inc. filed three trademark applications at the European Union Intellectual Property Office: FRENCH SUPERINTELLIGENCE, GERMAN SUPERINTELLIGENCE, and SWEDISH SUPERINTELLIGENCE. Seventeen days later the lab announced a long-term partnership with Nvidia (NVIDIA; TechCrunch, July 27), and none of the coverage of that deal mentioned the filings, which have not been reported anywhere.
Compiled from the public trademark register as of August 1, 2026.
Three names, one service description
The applications are 019393436 (FRENCH SUPERINTELLIGENCE), 019393402 (GERMAN SUPERINTELLIGENCE), and 019393437 (SWEDISH SUPERINTELLIGENCE). All three are word marks, which protect the name as plain text rather than any particular logo or styling (types of trademarks). All three sit in Nice class 42, the international category covering research and software services (trademark classes), and all three carry word for word the same specification: research and consultancy in artificial intelligence, plus software as a service and AI as a service for "simulating cognitive functioning and thinking skills beyond the level of human intelligence." One representative, DLA Piper Luxembourg, filed all three. As of August 1 each application is under examination at the EUIPO, and none has been published for opposition, the stage at which third parties get a fixed window to object (opposition and cancellation).
The register history behind the cluster is what makes it unusual. Every earlier mark the company owns is its own name: SAFE SUPERINTELLIGENCE and SSI at the USPTO in May 2025, then a Madrid international registration on May 13, 2026 that reached the EUIPO as application W01928056 and designated additional offices. Until July, Safe Superintelligence had never filed a mark that was not its house brand. These three are the first.
The product read is inference, not a register fact. A company with no shipped product and no public model does not usually reserve three country-scoped service names in one regional filing unless something country-scoped is planned, and the specification describes services sold to a market rather than a research program. What the register supports as fact is narrower and more useful: on July 10 the words French, German and Swedish were attached to a superintelligence service claim in the EU, and by August 1 nobody had said why.
Three filings with nothing announced behind them
Disney INFINITE FATES. Disney Enterprises filed the figurative mark Disney INFINITE FATES at the EUIPO on July 30 (application 019402871) in classes 9 and 41, software and entertainment. A figurative mark protects a specific visual treatment rather than plain text. No product or title under that name had been announced by August 1.
LG BUDDY. LG Corp. filed LG BUDDY at the USPTO on July 23 (application 50010170), a word mark in classes 9 and 38, electronics and telecommunications. It is under examination, with no matching announcement.
FREE IQ. NIKE Innovate C.V. filed FREE IQ at the EUIPO on July 27 (application 019400832), a word mark in class 25, clothing and footwear. Nike's FREE line is long established. The IQ suffix is new to the register and, as of the horizon, unannounced.
Disney reached the register before it reached YouTube
Disney filed OZZY FOX at the USPTO on July 2, as application 99919965 in class 41 and 99919969 in class 9, then at the EUIPO on July 3 (019390053) and at the UKIPO on July 3 (UK00004410959). The Disney Jr. series of that name went live on YouTube on July 14 with no formal press announcement (MickeyBlog; NewsNation). The paperwork ran twelve days ahead of the show. As of August 1 the two US applications and the EU application are under examination, while the UK application is filed and awaiting examination.
SAM THE LITTLE WITCH followed the same route four days later: the USPTO on July 6 (99924151), the EUIPO on July 7 (019391369), the UKIPO on July 7 (UK00004412629), all word marks in class 41. Disney had already shown the series on its Annecy slate in June under the working name Sam Witch (Variety). Status now differs by office, which is normal: the EU application was published for opposition on July 29, opening the objection window; the US application was assigned to an examiner the same day; the UK application is still at filed.
Also on the register in July
Eli Lilly banked five invented names. ZAVQY, BRYLZ, JEYCIO and ITEGVO went in at the USPTO on July 2 (applications 99918859, 99918869, 99918875 and 99918895), followed by YUZEVNI on July 8 (99928107). All are word marks in Nice class 5, pharmaceuticals. Drugmakers file coined names in batches years before any approval, so a cluster like this reads as inventory rather than a launch signal.
Microsoft brought VibeVoice to Europe. Microsoft filed VibeVoice at the EUIPO on July 23 (application 019399393), a word mark in class 9. The open-source speech model of that name was released in April 2026 (Microsoft; GitHub), so this is the register catching up with something already shipped.
Taylor Swift's rights company went wide in Canada. TAS Rights Management filed the word mark TAYLOR SWIFT TAYLOR'S VERSION at CIPO on July 10 (application 2487583) across twelve classes, spanning electronics, jewellery, clothing, games and entertainment services. It sits at the filed stage.
Land Rush
Counting only direct national and regional filings, which strips out the duplicate office rows a single international filing creates, roughly 321 applications naming "AI" landed in classes 9 and 42 in July, against about 287 in June. Agent language stayed flat: 24 filings for "agent" in class 42 and 20 for "agentic," compared with 23 and 22 a month earlier. The newer agentic names were not startups. PwC filed AGENTIC SCAFFOLDING at the USPTO on July 14 (application 99939813) and Huawei filed Agentic MBB at the EUIPO on July 29 (application 019402258).
The sharper number belongs to the lead's own word. Across the global register there are 59 direct filings containing "superintelligence," and 27 of them were filed in the first seven months of 2026. The term is being carved up by domain, not reserved by AI labs.
On the Watch List
- The three Safe Superintelligence applications are under examination at the EUIPO. Publication for opposition is the next visible step, and it is the point at which anyone holding a conflicting EU right can object.
- SAM THE LITTLE WITCH at the EUIPO published on July 29, so its opposition window is open. The UK and US applications for the same name are at earlier stages.
- Disney INFINITE FATES, LG BUDDY and FREE IQ are the month's unmatched names. Any announcement against one of them closes the gap between filing and launch.
- Anthropic filed four applications at IPOS Singapore on July 27 whose mark text is not yet carried in the register data. Worth re-checking once the office publishes the names.
Signa tracks these filings across the global register as they move, which turns the gap between a filing and an announcement into something you can measure rather than guess at. Watching a name, a competitor or a whole category from filing through to registration is what the API and monitoring are for.
